EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (August 15, 2023) - For the second year in a row, Tucker Pederson won the $1,004-to-win Cliff Reeves Memorial Street Stock special at Devils Lake Speedway near Doyon, ND. The win is Tucker's 19th of the season, in what was also his 50th race of the 2023 campaign which sees him now within 37 points of the WISSOTA national point lead. A shorter than normal three race weekend for the Pederson Family of racers began on Thursday as the POWRi Nationals kicked off a scheduled four race swing through the upper-Midwest at Devils Lake Speedway.
With Streets also on the cards, the Pederson siblings made the trip to the third-mile oval. Kelsi charged from fifth to second in the No. 93 Shawn Horn Crary Realtor / Olson Underground Henchcraft her heat race to secure a spot in the special dash race that set the first four rows of the main event while Tucker went on to win his heat race from the pole in the No. 27P R&R Farms / North Dakota Eye Clinic Kurshinsky WISSOTA Street Stock. Following a sixth place finish in the dash, Kelsi started on the outside of the third row in the 25-lap main event. Spending the majority of the first half of the race inside the top ten, Kelsi fell back to as far as 12th at the beginning of the second half of the race. The second and final caution of the race saw Kelsi fight to climb back into the top ten with four laps remaining. A battle with Quebec native Jeremy Lafleur saw Kelsi finish eleventh, losing the final spot in the top ten on the final lap. Tucker started eighth in his 20-lap feature, and immediately moved forward, running sixth at the close of the opening circuit, and entering the top five on the third lap. Running fourth through a caution with four laps remaining, Tucker went three wide with Billie and Jaden Christ, then fought with Trey Hess, Brian Johanson, and Dustin Ebensteiner for the final spots inside the top five, but a mechanical failure sent Tucker to the infield on the final lap. For the fifth time this season, all three Pederson racing entries were in action on the same night at River Cities Speedway on Friday. Tucker finished second in his heat race, while Joey finished fifth and Kelsi third in their qualifiers. Following a lengthy rain delay, Tucker quite literally kept his nose clean as a number of cautions slowed the race on the wet and heavy bullring. The final restart with four laps remaining saw two laps cut from the race, but also saw Tucker go from fifth to second in the final two trips around the quarter-mile to finish as the runner-up. Kelsi's feature was next, as she started on the outside of the seventh row. Kelsi fell back to 18th early on in the second and final 25-lap feature of her weekend but took three of those spots back on a lap nine restart. The final restart with six to go saw Kelsi charge from 14th to ninth after Grant Sexton bicycled in turn one at the resumption of the race. Kelsi completed the final handful of laps in the ninth spot, her 13th top ten in 14 races this season. Joey started 13th in the No. 7P Dahlstrom Motors / Markit County Grain Rocket XR1 in the 20 lap Late Model main event to close out the night. Laps three to 14 went caution free, which also saw Joey climb from the inside of the seventh row to the eighth spot in the order. Joey avoided disaster on a restart with seven to go when leader Matt Jarvis broke at the drop of the green. Joey made a pair of passes in the final four laps to finish the race sixth. Tucker headed back to Devils Lake on Saturday night for the Cliff Reeves Memorial, beginning the night as the defending champion of the race. Tucker was third in his heat race and started third in the main event. Tucker spent the first portion of the 30-lap race battling with Greg Jose for a podium spot. Once he was solidly in third, he began to reel in the top two runners for a shot at the win. A restart with 16 laps left saw Tucker move past Seth Klostreich as the race went back green, then tracked down Kyle Anderson to take the lead two laps later. Tucker held off Kasey Ussatis on the final restart with eight to go to pick up his second Reeves Memorial in a row. The win is also his 19th of the 2023 campaign. Tucker will head into this week's action just 37 points behind Braden Brauer in the hunt for the national championship.
