Kelsi & Tucker Pederson ready for River Cities season opener

Kelsi Pederson picked up the inaugural series event with the Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints on Saturday at Devils Lake.

EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (May 28, 2020) – It may be close to a month later than normal, but the 2020 racing season is about to hit the fast lane. Tomorrow night, May 29th, Pederson Racing’s home track, River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, will host its season opener, featuring WISSOTA Street Stocks, Midwest Mods and Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints. 

Both Kelsi and Tucker Pederson will be in action at the Bullring, but due to fan restrictions, Late Models are not on the card for Friday’s event, meaning Joey has the night off from driving duties. 

Both Kelsi and Tucker, as well as Joey, were able to turn several laps last Friday night during the Rive Cities Speedway practice session and get a feel for their respective cars and for the slightly modified racing surface, which is new for this season. 

While Friday’s event will be the season opener at River Cities, Kelsi and Tucker already have a race under their belt as they kicked off their season last Saturday night at Devils Lake Speedway. 

Kelsi started the season off with a bang, collecting the feature win with the all-new POWRi Lucas Oil Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints. After charging from sixth to second in her heat, Kelsi started on the pole for the 20-lap inaugural series event. 

Kelsi jumped out to the lead on the opening lap and never looked back. The 2018 NLSA series champion led every lap around the high-banked quarter-mile to pick up the win. 

Tucker had a solid night as well against a stacked field of WISSOTA Street Stocks. A third-place run in his heat put him in the top half of the starting lineup for the main event. After getting spun around early on and having to restart from the tail of the field, Tucker battled back to salvage a ninth-place finish.

This weekend, Kelsi and Tucker will head back to Devils Lake Speedway on Saturday as both the Minn-Kota Lightning Sprints and WISSOTA Street Stocks will be back in action.
