EAST GRAND FORKS, Minn. (September 5, 2023) - Tucker Pederson kept his WISSOTA National Championship hopes alive last weekend, sweeping the Labor Day double header at Devils Lake Speedway, winning both features in dramatic fashion which included a spin-to-win and a last lap pass to earn his 22nd and 23rd feature victories of the 2023 campaign. Following an eighth-place run Thursday night at Brown County Speedway, Tucker returned home to River Cities Speedway with Street Stocks being added to the program in recent weeks.
Tucker finished second in his heat race and started on the pole of the 20-lap main event. Tucker brought an 18-point lead over fellow front row starter Weston Ramsrud into the final feature with track points on the line for the season. Ramsrud took the early lead and led two laps before an early caution. From there, Tucker went door-to-door for the lead on no fewer than five occasions through the midway point of the race. Tucker remained close through the end of the race, finishing second, but winning the track championship. Joey lined up on the inside of the second row in the 20-lap Late Model feature. After the drop of the green, the next 15 laps went caution free as Joey battled Brad Seng for the second spot. Joey made the pass for second on lap 12 and started behind leader Dustin Strand on the final two restart attempts with 5 laps remaining. Joey remained second through the end of the race and finished third in the season-long points battle at the speedway. The Pederson's split up for the rest of the weekend with Tucker going west to Devils Lake while Joey and Kelsi headed north to run at Greenbush Race Park. Tucker charged from fifth to second during his heat on Saturday and from sixth to second on Sunday, setting up starting spots on the outside of the second row during both 20-lap features. On Saturday night the feature was slowed multiple times due to cautions, but during the longest green flag stint which lasted 12 laps, Tucker shadowed Trey Hess for the majority of the run, taking the lead on lap 14. Hess suffered a flat shortly thereafter while Braden Brauer had charged from last to second. The final restart with three laps left saw Brauer get into Tucker while battling for the lead in turn one setting off a multi-car pileup. Tucker survived the spin and continued on for his 22nd win of the season. Only two cautions slowed Sunday night's feature which saw Tucker fall back to third at the midway point. The track was slick due to the wind and the heat, but Tucker was able to hold off Brauer and take second back with four laps left. Needing the victory, Tucker ran deep into the third and fourth turns on the final lap, clearing Klostreich and continuing on for his 23rd win of the season and the weekend sweep at Devils Lake. Joey's weekend at Greenbush saw a pair of second place heat finishes turn into starts on the outside of the second row both nights. Joey was the first of the front-runners to run the top of the track, passing Bryce Sward in lapped traffic at the midway point. The only caution with seven to go saw Joey lose second to Shane Edginton but hold off Bryce Sward and Dustin Strand to finish third. While battling with Dustin Strand for second in thick lapped traffic on night two, Joey and a lapped car made contact, eventually ending his night early. Kelsi battled Alan Truscinski for third early in Saturday's Lightning Sprint feature before Matthew Taves made it a three-car battle for the spot in lapped traffic in the second half of the race. Kelsi finished fifth as the race went green-to-checkered and lasted just under six and a half minutes. On Sunday night, Kelsi started on the pole and ran second to Alex Truscinski through the midway point. As the top two worked lapped traffic, Kelsi reeled Truscinski back in for the top spot, pulling even in turn one just laps before a red with four laps remaining. Kelsi finished third after another battle with Alan Truscinski in the final laps.
