East Grand Forks, Minn. (May 16, 2024) - The Pederson Family returned to the track last weekend as all three driver were in action during the season opener at River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks which included Tucker's Late Model but it was Saturday's race at Devils that brought much success to the family and friends of the family as the five drivers that parked together left the night with top tens. Before racing began on Friday at River Cities Joey, Kelsi, and Tucker were joined by Cole Babcock, Blake Anderson, Trey Hess, Josh Barker, making memorial laps in honor of Wife Mother, and Friend, Julie Pederson who passed away one month prior.
They were joined by Matt Jarvis who also made laps for Bruce Hart and many members of the racing community that passed over the offseason. Kelsi finished second in her Lightning Sprint heat race while Joey and Tucker finished second and sixth respectively in their Late Model heat races, the latter of whom making his class debut. Kelsi started third in the 20-lap main event but from the drop of the green it was apparent there were issues with the No. 93 as she fell back and eventually retired from the race. Joey and Tucker started ninth and 16th in the 20-lap main event. Tucker made progress throughout the race, eventually fighting his way up to 12th. Joey climbed into the top five on lap nine and remained inside the top five for the rest of the race, finishing fourth. It was Saturday at Devils Lake that was the better of the two nights as Trey Hess won the Street Stock feature going mostly unchallenged with Josh Barker finishing fifth. Cole Babcock started 6th with Joey and Tucker starting 14th and 15th in the opening 25-lap NLRA main event of the 2024 campaign. With Joey climbing towards the top five late in the race, he and Babcock battled for the position with Joey fending off a slide job from Babcock in turns one and two. It was also at this point in the race when Tucker's bid for a top ten came to fruition as he found his way as high as ninth following the final restart of the race with six to go. Cole finished fifth with Joey finishing seventh and Tucker scoring his first Late Model top ten, finishing tenth. This week, all three Pederson's will return to River Cities for week two of weekly competition.
